The Environment

Consideration for the environment was one of our original concerns, as we are unwilling to use resources which are not regenerated at a sufficient rate to halt the erosion of the world’s rainforests. However, we remain determined not to compromise on the quality and durability of our output.
Our first choice of material was therefore oak: strong, durable, with a transparent supply chain of timber from regenerated forests close to home. Oak also has another advantage, which is that it is simply the craftsman’s favourite resource.
Oak from the forests of Europe is one of the most durable temperate hardwoods. From timber framed buildings to old ships, our continent is littered with testimony to this fact.
One of the first members of ‘Woodland Heritage’, Gaze Burvill has had ‘Chain of Custody’ certification from the Forest Stewardship Council since May 2003. |
